ROSI

We are waiting and waiting and waiting for priorities to be lifted at precisely 6:00 AM and it rolls around what what happens? ROSI gets totally overloaded. Is this common? Because it's really frustrating. There is one seat left in Intro to Arabic and I really want it. It's also three am over here and I am angry at them for making me wake up in the middle of the night for nothing. How normal is this?

Ugh, I was just about to post this. Fuck you ROSI, I did not get up at 6 am for you to tell me you don't have enough "sockets" for me. What is this shit.

And it's been 15 minutes, how long does it take people to pick some courses and get out? How long is this going to take?!

I'm giving it fifteen minutes more and then I'm going back to bed. Fuck, it is 3:18 and I should be doing really anything except dealing with a GIANT university's inferior servers. What, did they think that only three of us wanted priority'd classes?

I think I got in! After "unregistered" I got "due to a very high load, unable to process your request" and now it is moving at the speed of molasses.

I got in and registered, but too late for Arabic. I'm first on the waitlist, so I'm hoping to get in either through that or by obstinately sitting in the classroom asking determinedly intelligent questions.

Now I go to bed. Maybe if I free up there servers, you can get in!

I thought I was getting closer with the new "Due to a very high load, your request could not be processed. Please try again momentarily." Uh.. NO. I have a feeling I might be waiting for awhile.

oh just a tip.. you can just press backspace to resent postdata if you're on firefox .. slightly faster than typing your pin haha.

i hate to sound elderly here, but if you think this is slow, you are SO lucky you aren't signing up for classes on old rosi (thinking 7 or 8 years ago) on dial-up...that was an experience.

and that year, there also weren't staggered start-times for registration, so everyone dove in at once. registration took HOURS. i do really mean HOURS.

that said, i totally feel your pain. you're just taking me back...

Seriously though. She's right. ROSI is dumbtarded, and was even moreso in the past. And now we don't even have the lovely mascot of which to burn effigies. I'm just glad my grad courses don't ever fill up.

after i wrote that comment, i had to go back and confirm with one of my friends that i wasn't just making things worse in my mind than they ever were. i was like 'do you remember when it took us three or four hours to register for courses on rosi? we all used to get on msn and groan about it, as we got bumped out of the system? you sat there with your fingers crossed, waiting to see whether your request was going to be processed or you were going to unceremoniously dumped and told that "rosi knows today is very important and making login unavailable for a period of time actually helps speed up registration"?'

and he was like 'oh my god, that was terrible.'

and that confirmed for me that we really did walk 10 miles to campus in the snow, uphill both ways.

i'm a new U of T student and even i remember people complaining about that all those years ago. it made me happy to be @ the small university i was at (where everyone signed up for courses @ the same time online but classes hardly ever filled up and most people didn't really care about doing it right away). that's why i was terrified about registration this year @ UofT, those ROSI legends of old.

Waking up at six half asleep and ROSI not working made me freak out. But when it started working around 6:50, I was awake but ahd stopped caring.
I hate ROSI. Even though everything did work out. I don't need and more early in the morning freakouts like the ones I get when I leave my essays to the last minute.

I was entering my student no and pin at 5:59, and didn't actually get into ROSI or add the class I wanted until 6:50am. You'd think they would just take the P controls off at 9am, less ROSI-hate if there's a screwup at a decent hour.

this may be out there, but maybe it's because they don't want their servers to be so overloaded during actual working hours... (plus for people with jobs maybe?)

i dunno. i slept through my alarm anyway and woke myself up @ 6:30 fearful for my life. after about 5 min of constantly putting in my pin, i got in. (and kicked out twice but meh. i didn't really think i had a chance in hell of getting the course session i wanted anyway and i was right).

i would have preferred midnight even to 6 am.
